Uptick supports the use of almost all types of barcodes, allowing you to apply your own barcodes to assets which you can then scan by tapping the barcode scanner button in the mobile app (visible on Inspection and Repair/Product tabs, and when viewing all assets on the property)

How do barcodes/QR codes and bSecure work?

Both barcodes and QR codes are scannable patterns that represent sequences of numbers and/or letters. This could be a serial identifier, reference number or any other kind of letter/number combinations that might be coded onto the barcode/QR code.

bSecure stickers are technically QR codes, although it has special coding that allows for a dual function, depending on whether you're scanning the bSecure while using the Uptick app, or just using the QR scanning feature on your device outside of the app.

Best Practice & Behaviour

Here's how each type will behave when scanned from within the app or outside of the app.

Outside of the app

  • Go to linked asset to perform work/make changes once the Barcode field is already populated

What happens when I scan barcodes/QR codes/bSecure?

From the app

Scanning in the app has the same outcome regardless of whether it's a barcode, QR code or bSecure. In all cases you will be taken to the linked item so you can perform work on it or make changes.

Outside of the app (bSecure only)

Using your camera app or QR scanning utility on your device to scan a bSecure ID will allow you to visit the link associated with it, where you can view publicly available information.

Where to add barcodes/QR codes/bSecure

The mobile app is used to add barcodes/QR codes (assets, classic logbooks) and bSecure (assets, properties, digital logbooks). There is no scanning functionality available through the desk view.

Barcodes/QR codes

The Barcode field on assets and classic logbooks supports both QR codes and barcodes. If there is no barcode/QR code information present, the button will display Scan, otherwise it will display the barcode/QR code value.

Barcodes can be added in the following areas:

Assets

  • When adding a new asset

  • Tap on the Edit Asset tab when viewing an asset

Classic logbooks

  • When adding a new classic logbook

  • Tap on Details when viewing a classic logbook on the Finalisation tab

bSecure

The bSecure field on will only accept scanning bSecure stickers will. If there is no bSecure ID information present, the button will display Scan or Scan Sticker, otherwise it will display the bSecure ID it is currently linked to. Learn more about bSecure here.

bSecure can be linked in the following areas:

Assets

  • When adding a new asset

  • Tap on the Edit Asset tab when viewing an asset

Properties logbooks
