You will need the ESMs module turned on in your workspace. If you do not see this in your main menu, reach out to [email protected].
You will also need the following permissions in your security group:
Can change site configuration settings.
Can configure the asset library.
Can view property list page.
Can view property.
Can create assets.
Can update and archive assets.

Essential Safety Measures (ESMs) are features in a building that must be maintained to ensure the safety of occupants during emergencies and are separate to the Assets on the property.

How to create an ESM type
To create the ESM type, expand the Essential Safety Measures section when creating an asset type and tick the Essential Safety Measure field.

Essential Safety Measure: Is this asset type an Essential Safety Measure? These are displayed separately from assets.
Default Standard of Maintenance, Default Standard of Installation and Default Standard of Performance: If completed, the ESM on the property will inherit this field.
Standard excerpt: Additional information or excerpts from the standard.
How to configure ESM preset
ESMs can be grouped into a preset, allowing you to bulk add multiple ESMs to a property in one step instead of adding them individually.
1. Navigate to Control Panel > Asset types and click Configure ESM presets.

2. Click +Create or Edit on the existing preset.

3. Complete the Name, then search and select the ESMs in the Items field.

How to add an ESM or load a preset on a property
1. Navigate to Customer Data > Properties and View a property.

3. If creating a new ESM, select the Type from the dropdown and click Create. If loading a preset, select it from the list and click Load preset.

Location: If this ESM is only relevant to part of the property, you can enter a location which will appear on reporting.
Label: Overwrite the standard name to match the wording provided e.g. as on the Certificate of Occupancy or Maintenance Determination.
Active: Indicates if the ESM is active or not.
Standard of Maintenance, Standard of Installation and Standard of Performance: Leave blank to use the default from ESM type.
Standard excerpt: Additional information or excerpts from the standard.
ESM Elements: Essential Safety Measure elements, one per line
Not on Occupancy Permit: Used as a flag on reports to indicate an ESM exists on site but is not listed on the Occupancy Permit.
Silent: Silent items won’t be visible on the Customer Portal and can be hidden on your customer reports.
Base date: The base date for major servicing calculations.
Internal note: Used for internal communication or reference.
Tags: Used to group ESMS, with tags created in Control Panel > Asset Types.
