You will need the ESMs module turned on in your workspace. If you do not see this in your main menu, reach out to [email protected].

You will also need the following permissions in your security group:

  • Can change site configuration settings.

  • Can configure the asset library.

  • Can view property list page.

  • Can view property.

  • Can create assets.

  • Can update and archive assets.

Essential Safety Measures (ESMs) are features in a building that must be maintained to ensure the safety of occupants during emergencies and are separate to the Assets on the property.

If you see this arrow, click to expand for more information!

We will add additional information and images under these arrows.

How to create an ESM type

To create the ESM type, expand the Essential Safety Measures section when creating an asset type and tick the Essential Safety Measure field.

Available fields on Essential Safety Measures (Essential Safety Measure, Default Standard of Maintenance, Default Standard of Installation, Default Standard of Performance, Standard excerpt)

  • Essential Safety Measure: Is this asset type an Essential Safety Measure? These are displayed separately from assets.

  • Default Standard of Maintenance, Default Standard of Installation and Default Standard of Performance: If completed, the ESM on the property will inherit this field.

  • Standard excerpt: Additional information or excerpts from the standard.

How to configure ESM presets

What are ESM presets?

ESM presets allow you to group multiple Essential Safety Measures together and apply them to properties in bulk. This saves time when working with similar properties that require the same set of ESMs.

When to use ESM presets:

  • You manage multiple properties with identical ESM requirements (e.g., schools, aged care facilities, or office buildings)

  • You need to quickly set up ESMs for new properties

  • You want to ensure consistency across similar property types

Example: A university, elementary school, and daycare may all require the same ESMs under the same standards. Instead of adding each ESM individually to every classroom or building, create a preset once and apply it to all similar properties.

Create or edit an ESM preset

On the Uptick Web Platform:

  1. Navigate to Control Panel > Asset Types

  2. Click Configure ESM presets

  3. Click +Create to make a new preset, or click Edit on an existing preset

  4. Complete the following fields:

    • Name: Give your preset a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "School Classroom ESMs" or "Office Building Standard")

    • Items: Search for and select the ESM types you want to include in this preset

  5. Click Save Preset

Tips:

  • You can add ESM types to the preset by double-clicking them or by selecting them and clicking "Add to selected"

  • Create multiple presets for different property types to streamline your workflow

  • Review and update your presets regularly to ensure they reflect current compliance requirements

Apply an ESM preset to a property

On the Uptick Web Platform:

  1. Navigate to Customer Data > Properties and select the property

  2. Open the ESMs tab

  3. Click Load Preset

  4. Select the preset you want to apply from the list

  5. Click Load preset

All ESMs from the preset will be added to the property in one step. You can then customize individual ESM details (such as location, contractor, or standards) as needed.

Note: Loading a preset does not overwrite existing ESMs on the property—it only adds the ESMs from the preset.
