Remarks are predefined comments used to describe defects, recommendations, or reasons an asset couldn’t be tested during inspection. They streamline field user workflows by reducing manual input and speeding up the defect quoting process. Understanding and managing remark types properly ensures smooth operations and accurate reporting throughout your inspection processes.
There are two types of remarks:
Global remark types, which apply to any asset
Asset-specific remark types, which apply only to relevant asset types
Example: "Not tested – Access issues" that could apply to any asset.
Example: "Fire Door not closing" would only apply to fire doors.
How to create or update a GLOBAL remark type
Available fields on remark type

Asset Type (available when updating): Selecting an asset type will change the remark type from global to asset-specific.
Resolution: Describe the action to resolve the remark.
Inspection criteria: Input inspection criteria here.
Is active: Toggles whether or not the remark type can be used.
Requires replacement: When this is checked, when this remark is selected the default replacement product will be suggested during quoting.
Note: If changes to remark types don't immediately appear in the app, try logging out and logging back in. Some updates require reloading your session to take effect.
How to create or update the ASSET-SPECIFIC remark type
Troubleshooting Remark Types
If you encounter issues with remark types not appearing correctly or being applied universally when they should be asset-specific, consider these common causes:
Duplicate Remarks: Remarks may appear for all assets if there are duplicate entries with one not linked to a specific asset type.
Incorrect Assignments: Ensure that asset-specific remarks are properly linked to the relevant asset categories.
If changes to remark types don't immediately reflect in the system, try logging out and logging back into the app. Some updates require reloading your session to take effect.
How to bulk import Suggested Products for Remark Types
You can use the Data Importer tool on the Uptick web platform to efficiently add or update suggested products for multiple remark types at once. This helps technicians quote the correct products for defects more quickly.
Step 1: Download your data
You will need two separate files to prepare your import.
Download Remark Types: Go to Control Panel > Remark Types and click Download. This file contains all your existing remark types and their unique IDs.
Download Product Data: Go to Billing > Product Catalogue and click Download. This file contains all your products and their unique Product IDs.
Step 2: Prepare the import file
Open the Remark Types CSV file you downloaded. This will be your import template.
To avoid accidental changes, it is highly recommended to delete all columns you are not updating, except for the ID column. The
IDcolumn is essential as it tells the system which existing remark type to update.Open the Product Catalogue CSV file and find the products you want to suggest. Copy the Product ID (e.g.,
1652) from this file.In your Remark Types file, paste the Product ID into the
suggested_productscolumn against the correct remark type.
Important: The importer requires the Product ID, not the product name. Using the product name will cause the import to fail.
Adding Multiple Products: To add multiple suggested products to a single remark type, enter each Product ID on a new line within the same cell. Do not use commas or semicolons to separate the IDs.
Step 3: Import the file
Save your updated Remark Types sheet in CSV format.
Follow the steps in Import data into Uptick to upload your file, selecting Remark Types as the import type, and mapping the
IDandsuggested_productscolumns accordingly.
Once the import is complete, the products will be available as suggestions when a technician selects that remark type in the field.
