This article covers how to link parent and child tasks and properties in Uptick. Linking lets you consolidate several tasks or properties under one parent, so you can send a single invoice, dispatch or report from one parent task, and group related properties (such as units, shops or tenancies on the same site) together.

How to link parent and child tasks
A parent task pulls together the billable items, finalised defect quotes and published reports from its child tasks, so you can invoice or dispatch everything from one place. Start by picking one task to be the parent — this is the task that will send the dispatch or invoice.
Create new child tasks from the parent
Use this when the child tasks do not exist yet:
1. Open the task you have chosen as the parent.
2. In the right-hand column, open the Task Relationships section.
3. Under Parent / Child, click + Add child task to create and link each child task off the parent.
Link exisiting tasks to each other individually:
1. Open the task you want to be a child.
2. In the right-hand column, open the Task Relationships section.
3. Under Parent / Child, click + Link parent task, then select the task and click Save.
Link exisiting tasks to each other in bulk:
1. Go to the Tasks page.
2. Click 'Bulk action'
2. Select the tasks you want to link by checking their boxes.
3. Click Edit _ Tasks.
4. Select the task in the Parent task field.
5. Click Apply changes.
Create a new parent task/invoice for bunch of child tasks
To create the parent task automatically and link to the child tasks in bulk use the process of consolidating tasks.
What the parent task inherits from child tasks
Once tasks are linked, the following information flows from each child task up to the parent:
Billable items: when you raise an invoice on the parent task, all child task billable items populate the invoice, as well as the parent's billable items. We still use each task's cost centre to figure out account codes.
Finalised defect quotes: when you raise a dispatch on the parent task and choose items to dispatch, any finalised defect quotes on the children are available to select.
Published reports: when you raise a dispatch on the parent task, any published report PDFs on the children are available to select.
How to link parent and child properties
Linking properties groups them under one parent property. This is mainly used for larger sites with multiple separate units, buildings, shops or tenancies that need separate reports, and often separate invoicing.
Connecting properties in this way is mainly helpful as a visual connection - from the parent, you can see and click into all the children properties on the Property tab. The only other feature that is offered is the shared contact availability - any property contacts added to the parent property with Invoice, Notification, Quote or Report ticked will received the relevant dispatches for the child properties as well.
If you do not have a parent property yet, create a property to be used as parent. It is common to name it with the site's name plus (Parent) or (Common Area).
Individually
1. Navigate to Properties page, View the property and click Update on the property page.
2. Expand the Categorisation section and select the property in Parent Property field, then click Save.
In bulk
1. Navigate to Properties page, select all properties to be child ones and click Edit X properties.
2. Select the relevant property in the Parent property dropdown, then click Apply changes.
Child properties stack linked together on the parent property page.
You can add Parent property filter on the Property list to search for all child properties nested under the parent.
