The Parent/Child task functionality that Uptick offers is used for inheriting data from lots of tasks into one task. This is aimed at helping you handle clients that want to receive one invoice for several tasks or properties, one dispatch for several quotes, reports and invoices or for small scale projects.

By labelling a task as a parent task, all attached child tasks will expose their invoicing items, finalised defect quotes and published reports to the Parent task so you can dispatch from just one task.

Setup

Are you doing a small project and need to create the Child tasks off your Parent task? If so, read the below.

1. Pick one of those tasks to be the "Parent" i.e the task that will send the dispatch.

2. View the Parent task and scroll down to the "related" section. Once opened, you can see the create button where you can create and link Child tasks off the Parent task.

Are the tasks you wish to use this functionality for already created? If so, read the below.

1. Pick one of those tasks to be the "Parent" i.e the task that will send the dispatch.

2. Either;

- edit all the "Child" tasks manually and add the chosen "Parent" task into the 'Parent Task' field on the task.

- use the bulk edit on the task page to select all the "Child" tasks, edit those Child tasks and add the parent task.

How to use

Now that you have linked tasks, all the following information from the Child task/s get funnelled up into the Parent:

- Billable items: When an invoice is raised on the Parent task, all Child task billable items will populate the invoice.

- Defect Quotes: If a FINALISED Defect Quote is on any Child task/s the Parent task will see this once a dispatch is raised and items need to be selected to dispatch.

- Reports: If a Published report is on any Child task/s the Parent task will see this once a dispatch is raised and items need to be selected to dispatch.

Parent/Child Properties

This is a way to organise your properties together under 1 banner.

One of the main reasons this is used is for larger properties with multiple seperate units, shops or tenancies that need seperate reports, and often seperate invoicing.

How to get started

  1. From the properties page, select all properties you'd like to be the child properties, and assign to the chosen parent property. Note: If you do not have a chosen parent property, you can always make one with the name (Parent) or (Common Area) or just the properties name. This will then be the main property.
You can also do this individually via the property under the Update button, then Categorisation Details.

  2. The properties are now linked. This means:

    • The neatly stack together on the parent page

    • You can use the parent property as a filter on the property search

    • The property contacts on the parent property will receive all dispatches (If you do not want this to occur, untick the relevant boxes).
โ€‹Note: Notifications will still go to the appropriate property for which the task has been generated.
