Labs lets you turn on experimental features before they're released to everyone. These are features and improvements we're still refining and hoping to get your feedback on. They're usually safe, but because they're still being perfected they may not be fully polished yet.
You can enable a Labs feature just for yourself, or for your whole organisation. Labs covers a range of changes, from smaller interface improvements through to larger new features. You can turn any Labs feature off at any time to go back to the standard version.
Setup
To enable a feature for your whole organisation, you need the Can change site configuration settings permission in your security group. See Permissions and Security Groups.
How to turn on or off a feature
1. Click on the initials of your name in the top right corner of the screen, then select Labs.
2. Find the feature you want, then toggle on or off Just for me or Enable for whole organisation.
Just for me enables the feature for your account only — no one else in your organisation is affected. Enable for whole organisation turns it on for everyone, and is available only if you have the Can change site configuration settings permission.
Some features appear on the Labs page before they're ready to use. These show a Coming soon tag and their toggles are greyed out/unavailable for now.
Labs vs Extensions
Labs is different from Extensions. Extensions are stable, fully released modules that add a complete area of functionality (for example, Keys and Equipment). Labs features are experimental — not-yet-released features and improvements we're still refining and gathering feedback on
