What is the Geo Allocator?
The Geo Allocator is a visual tool in Uptick that helps you efficiently assign unassigned tasks to technicians and rounds based on their geographic location. By viewing tasks on a map, you can easily group nearby jobs together and create optimized routes for your field technicians.
Accessing the Geo Allocator
Step 1: Navigate to the Tasks page using the side navigation bar.
Step 2: Click on Geo-Allocator at the top of the page. You'll be redirected to a map view showing markers for all unassigned tasks.
Filtering Tasks in the Geo Allocator
By default, the Geo Allocator displays all tasks that are not assigned to a technician or round, including tasks with any and all Service Groups. Use the filter section on the right side of the screen to narrow down which tasks appear on the map.
Available Filters:
Service Groups – Filter by specific service types (e.g., Fire Panel, Fire Extinguisher, Emergency Lighting)
Category – Filter by task category
Tagged – Filter by task tags
Due – Filter by due date
Branches – Filter by branch location
Technician – Set to "No technician" to see only unassigned tasks
Round – Set to "No Round" to see only tasks not yet assigned to a round
Filtering by Service Groups
Service Groups are particularly useful for matching tasks to technicians based on their qualifications and certifications.
Example: If technician Bob doesn't have the qualifications to complete Fire Panel tasks, you can click the X next to "Fire Panel" in the Service Groups filter to remove those tasks from the map. This ensures you only see tasks that Bob is qualified to complete.
For new allocations: Set both "No technician" and "No Round" filters to display only tasks that haven't been allocated yet.
Selecting Tasks on the Map
Step 1: Use your mouse scroll function to zoom in and out of the map to find clusters of tasks in the same geographic area.
Step 2: Click around the corners of a cluster of tasks to create a polygon shape. The tasks inside the polygon will be selected.
Step 3: Double-click to complete the polygon selection.
Tip: The selected tasks will appear in a list on the right side of the screen. If you need to start over, click the "Clear Selection" button under the list and create a new polygon.
Assigning Tasks to Rounds
Once you've selected a group of tasks using the polygon tool, you can assign them to a technician and round.
Step 1: In the assignment section on the right side of the screen, select the technician you want to assign the tasks to.
Step 2: Choose one of the following options:
Option A: Assign to an Existing Round
Select an existing round from the dropdown menu
Click Assign
Option B: Create a New Round
Enter a name for the new round in the "Or to a new Round" field
Click Create & Assign
The selected tasks will now be assigned to the chosen technician and round, and will no longer appear in the Geo Allocator view.
Assigning Tasks to Users
Once you've selected a group of tasks using the polygon tool, you can assign them to a technician and round.
Step 1: In the assignment section on the right side of the screen, select the technician you want to assign the tasks to.
Step 2: Click Assign
The selected tasks will now be assigned to the chosen technician and round, and will no longer appear in the Geo Allocator view.
Best Practices
Filter by Service Groups first to ensure you're only viewing tasks that match your technician's qualifications
Group tasks geographically to minimize travel time between jobs
Use consistent naming conventions for rounds to make them easy to identify later
