What You'll Learn

  • What Google password breach alerts mean for your Uptick account

  • Why you're seeing this alert

  • How to protect your account

  • Uptick's security measures

Understanding the Alert

You may receive an alert from Google Chrome or your browser that states:

"The email and password combination you're using on Uptick has been found in a database of breached passwords"

This does NOT mean Uptick has been breached.

This alert means the password you're using for Uptick is also being used on another service, and that other service has been compromised. Your password has been exposed in a data breach elsewhere on the internet.

Why This Matters

When passwords are reused across multiple services, a breach on one platform puts all your other accounts at risk. If someone obtains your password from a breached website, they may try using it to access your other accounts, including Uptick.

What You Should Do

1. Change Your Uptick Password Immediately

On the Uptick Web Platform:

  1. Click your initials in the top right corner

  2. Select Change Password

  3. Create a strong, unique password

For Administrators resetting staff passwords:

  1. Navigate to People > Users

  2. Select View next to the user account

  3. Click Change Password

2. Use a Unique Password

Your Uptick password should be:

  • Unique - not used on any other service

  • Strong - at least 9 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols

  • Not a common password - Uptick prevents the use of commonly breached passwords

3. Consider Using a Password Manager

Password managers help you:

  • Generate strong, unique passwords for each service

  • Store passwords securely

  • Avoid password reuse

4. Enable Single Sign-On (SSO) for Enhanced Security

For the strongest security, ask your administrator about enabling SSO through your company's identity provider (Microsoft, Google, or other providers). SSO provides:

  • Centralized password management

  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA) through your identity provider

  • Reduced password fatigue

  • Better security controls

Uptick's Security Measures

Uptick takes password security seriously:

  • Strong password requirements - Minimum password strength is enforced

  • Common password prevention - Commonly breached passwords are blocked

  • Brute force protection - Failed login attempts are logged and timed out

  • Secure password storage - Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard PBKDF2 with SHA256

  • SSO support - Connect to your identity provider for enhanced security

  • No password rotation required - Following NIST guidelines, we don't force regular password changes

Note: Uptick does not offer native two-factor authentication (2FA). For enhanced security with MFA, we recommend using Single Sign-On through your identity provider.
