Uptick Inbox: getting started

Set up Uptick Inbox in your Uptick account in a few minutes, free to try. Create your inbox, send a copy of your email in, and start working from it.

Written by Patrick Morgan

Uptick Inbox brings your shared mailbox into Uptick. Every email is sorted into a folder, matched to the right client and property, and given an owner, so nothing slips.

Free to try. You're not charged until your team reaches 50 conversations: emails you reply to or take an AI action on. How pricing works

Before you start

Setup takes about five minutes in Uptick, plus one email to whoever looks after your email. You'll need the Configure inbox permission, which System Administrators and Managers have by default.

Don't have it? You'll be offered a way to ask your admin when you click Try it for free, or send this page to whoever manages your Uptick account.

Step 1 - Create your inbox (in Uptick)

Log in to Uptick and click Inbox in the left-hand menu, then Try it for free.

Uptick walks you through it:

  • Mailbox. The shared mailbox your clients already email, not a personal one. Start with one busy mailbox that several people work in. You can add more later.

  • Folders. Pick a starter set: General, Accounts, Sales or Compliance. Each folder has a plain-language description that decides what lands in it, and you can change them any time.

  • Access. Choose the people or security groups who can use the inbox, or leave it open to everyone who uses Inbox.

Creating your inbox doesn't touch your live email. Nothing arrives in Uptick until Step 2.

Adding another mailbox later? Go to Control Panel > Inboxes and choose Create inbox.

Step 2 - Send a copy of your email into Uptick

When you finish Step 1, Uptick emails you the setup instructions and gives you a link to copy. If you look after your email yourself, follow them. If someone else does, forward them on. The instructions set up your existing mailbox to send a copy of every email it receives into Uptick.

Your email address doesn't change, the original still arrives in your mailbox, and your clients keep emailing you exactly as they do now.

Set up a copy, not a forward. Forwarded email can bounce, or arrive split into separate conversations.

The step-by-step for Microsoft 365, Exchange, Outlook and Gmail is in Uptick Inbox: getting your email into Uptick. You can follow it yourself or forward it to whoever looks after your email.

Step 3 - Check it's working

Once the copy is set up, send a test email to your mailbox from another address - mention one of your property addresses in it - or wait for the next one from a client. Within a few minutes it appears in your inbox as a ticket (every email conversation becomes a ticket your team can assign and track), sorted into a folder and matched to the client and property it's about. Hover over the match to see why Uptick made it.

That's it - you're live. Let your team know, and anyone with access will find it under Inbox.

Your first day

  • Take ownership. Assign an email to yourself or a teammate, so everyone knows who's on it.

  • Talk to your team, not the client. Switch the reply box to Note and @mention a colleague. Clients never see notes.

  • Reply and keep moving. Send your reply and set the status in the same click. Statuses replace read and unread, so you can see what's waiting on you.

Next: working from Inbox every day

Now you're set up, read Uptick Inbox: working day to day. It covers a simple daily routine, using statuses and favourites, and moving your whole team across from Outlook or Gmail.
