What can I create or update via CSV Importer?
All available datasets can be found directly in Tools -> Data Importer. Click on the field What are you importing?, then check all available datasets in the dropdown. Please note some datasets only allow to update existing data, not create new one, such as Service Tasks.
How to know the format and columns CSV Importer requires?
There are two ways to learn the correct format and available fields:
By downloading existing data: If you want to make changes or create new properties, go to the Customer Data > Properties page and click Download. The CSV file will provide you all available columns and examples of the format expected in those columns.
Via Import templates: Go to Tools > Data Importer. The templates are listed below the What are you importing? field. Each dataset has a with example rows and a without example rows template.
How do I update existing records via CSV without creating duplicates?
Go to the list (for example, Customer Data > Properties) and click Download.
Keep the ID column unchanged. Without it, the importer creates new records instead of updating existing ones.
Keep only the columns you’re updating. A mapped column left blank overwrites the existing value.
Save the file as CSV and import it in Tools > Data Importer.
In what order should I import my data?
You need to download in the order that ensures any linked data already exists in the workspace. For example,
Properties can only be imported if clients already exist. Thus, import clients before properties
Assets must exist on the property, so import properties before assets
Billing contract line items must be attached to a billing contract. Thus, import the contracts before line items
See Import data into Uptick for the full steps.
Why does my property import show an error for the Client?
The Client in your CSV must exactly match the name of an existing client in your workspace. Differences in spelling or spacing cause import errors. Fix the name in your CSV, click Re-upload file, and check the Preview again.
Why does the Data Importer say “Select a valid choice. [value] is not one of the available choices”?
That means that the field only accepts set options, and the value in your CSV doesn’t match one of them exactly. This error usually appears when you are trying to import value against choice default fields of the object, for example Access Schedule on a property. You can check whenever the field is extra or default by:
Go to Control Panel > Extra Fields, only extra fields will be listed there, OR
Reviewing the downloading CSV of data or the import template - the extra field will have "extra_fields_" before its name in the header
To find the accepted values for the default field:
Go to Tools > Data Importer and download the dataset’s with example rows template. Check the example in that column. OR
Or go to the list (for example, Customer Data > Properties), click Download, and review the format of the field for the existing record.
Please note, the format to import the field vs what is visible when updating the record might be different. For example. Access Schedule on the property can be set to "Needs Review", while Importer requires "NR".
To find the accepted values for the extra field:
Go to Control Panel > Extra Fields, then click the pencil icon to edit the field. The options will have the Value and the key in brackets next to it. You should use the key when importing.
